Won't even sugar coat it, I had some -really- bad seasonal depression this year. I went to some dark places and contemplated giving up on my art and everyone I know online.

Now, I'm feeling better and that depression has been replaced with a feeling of general frustration at my family. This morning starting my car took 5 minutes as the engine struggled to turn over, not to mention my car's rear-end is still smashed from when my stepdad backed into a wall. I should point out he promised to pay for repairs but oh no, he can't afford it. He can afford 5 new 75 dollar hats, but he can't afford 300 dollar car repairs. Meanwhile my mother keeps chewing me out for not having a job yet and deliberately making me feel like a burden on our house.

UPDATE: Sketch compilations will continue to be offered, however they will now be at their regular price of $45.

SO what I am doing to do is this: I am offering "sketch compilation" commissions at a reduced price. What's a sketch compilation you may ask? It's where I sketch a series of smaller mono-chromatic pictures in a single page. How these will work is commissioners will give me a character, some general motifs or themes, and I will draw roughly 6 images based on that input. The idea is buyers can get more content per dollar in exchange for direct control over the drawings. Normally I would charge $45 for sketch compilations, but for the foreseeable future they will only cost you $30.

I know it's been a while, but I'm going to try -really- hard to work up the gumption over the next week to start drawing, posting, and being more regularly around here. Try to bare with me.
UPDATE: My stepdad borrowed my car, and his dumbass backed into a goddamn wall and busted up my car's rear end. I don't know if I should be pissed at myself for letting him borrow it, or pissed at him for busting up my car again. EITHER WAY, commissions are on sale since I need to raise some goddamn money. Everything is half off, if you just want to pitch in a couple bucks cause you're too nice to me, my paypal info is langate17@yahoo.com

Roughly a week ago my stepdad suffered a heart attack and had to be taken to the hospital. After spending the weekend there, he returned home last Monday with no serious complications and I was looking after him. He's still recovering but he's able to get around and do things with no hindrance or issues which is good. So if you've been wondering where I've been all week and why I haven't uploaded or posted anything, that's why.

I'm sorry I tend to be silent so much. Please believe me when I say I read and adore each comment you all give me, but my ability to communicate like a goddamn human being has been utterly shot to hell. You all take care of yourselves, and thank you so much for dealing with me. :)
Hey everyone, decided to open up commissions again, so if you're interested in either some giant monsters or chubby gals feel free to send me a note!

Our downstairs tenants finally moved out today, thus ending that wide-awake nightmare. With any luck this marks a turning point in my luck and things can start picking up again.

In an attempt to get my mind of recent events, I decided to go back and rewatch my Godzilla collection again and finally made my Top 10 Godzilla movies. I should put a massive disclaimer that these are my opinion, obviously, and that I picked these more on "would watch again" value than anything else. Also, I'm actively -not- including the original Gojira/Godzilla: King of the Monsters. It's on everyone's fuckin' lists, every single time, and is practically a given. By not including it, it gives me more flexibility for my top 10. So here we go, you all can see what horrible taste I have.

    10.   Godzilla vs. Biollante – While this movie single handedly spawned everything frustrating for me about the Heisei era, taken on its own it’s an interesting plot with a lot of nifty elements to it. There’s some phony bologna science to get Biollante, but who cares because we get one of the most badass, terrifying monsters in the whole franchise out of this movie. I really do wish we could somehow get more of her, and I would love to see the deleted scenes or the alternate ending. Again, not perfect and not my favorite, but it’s a very serviceable movie and probably one of the overall better flicks out of the Heseisi era.

    9.       Godzilla vs. Megaguirus – To this day I’m not quite sure if this takes place in the same universe as 2000, or if it’s one of the many “direct-sequel/reboots” that are all over the Millennium era movies. Regardless, this movie features a badass Godzilla and a very nifty opponent for him to fight too. While Orga was extremely tanky and could take a lot of damage and keep regenerating, Megaguirus was a very different beast in more ways than one. Lot of cool fights and neat action scenes and even a couple gags, this movie is a bit slow but so worth the build to action.

    8.       Godzilla vs. Megalon – I won’t pretend, this movie is a bit silly, but that’s also why I like it and I’m not just talking about the MST3K version. Godzilla is practically a super hero in this movie as he fights alongside a robot that just, somehow, programs himself to grow kaiju sized. Megalon is a goofy spaz who just pairs so damn well with the more mercenary like Gigan. This movie just speaks to the inner kid in me and I will never not cheer to myself when Godzilla and Jet Jaguar fly out of the circle of fire.

    7.       Godzilla vs. Destoroyah – While this movie is plagued with every issue I have with the Heisei era, I really enjoy the thematic elements of this movie. The full circle nature of the Oxygen Destroyer origin for Destoroyah, Godzilla’s own death, and the overall feeling of doom in this movie really does sell the “end of an era” thing for me. I also really enjoy the visuals of Burning Godzilla, and the final scene with him melting down was one of those major tear jerker moments for me growing up. The only thing that spoils it is the extent of the “we gotta stop Godzilla” mentality throughout that scene, which for me knocks it several rungs below Godzilla 1985.

    6.       Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster – It may seem odd, but this has one of my favorite human plot lines. A guy and his friends steal a boat to find his missing brother, accidently meet a bank robber, and together they thwart a para-military organization with the help of Godzilla. The monster action isn’t great, and there are times where it feels like a King Kong movie (cause it originally was), but I’d be hard pressed to say I don’t enjoy watching this movie. Not to mention I really like, even though it’s not written for him, how this movie characterizes Godzilla. It’s got a fun adventurous feel and Mothra makes an appearance. And I really love Mothra.

    5.       Godzilla 2000 – What I really like about this one, especially when stacked up against later movies in the Millennium era, is the fact it’s not a direct-sequel/reboot. Instead it just jumps right in the middle of a larger universe, Godzilla is a thing, he’s been around for a while, and we don’t have to get bogged down introducing things. I’m also a big fan of the “unconventional” design Godzilla has, pink spines, orange fire, bright green skin, and a more stylized lizard feel. Also giving it to the English dub for giving Orga that really off-putting, wheezy roar.

    4.       Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth – I love 90s Mothra to death. I love her spinoff series of movies and I love every time she shows up on screen. Her bold, stark, stylized colors and super good-guy, wants to protect all life on Earth mentality warms my heart. So while this movie is relatively weak when it comes to production value, I always enjoy watching it. Not to mention it’s one of the painfully few movies in the Heisei era that doesn’t just follow G-Force, instead we get off-brand Japanese Indiana Jones!

    3.       The Return of Godzilla/ Godzilla 1985 – Possibly my favorite of the “dark” takes on Godzilla, for me it does nearly everything Shin Godzilla tries to do but better. I’ll admit, I’m biased, as this was one of my first Godzilla movies. Both versions are on par for me; the Japanese version has more nuance and is a bit more consistent in tone, while the American version has Ramon Burr and a great ending monologue. It certainly does something right in that all these years later the ending still makes me cry. It’s also the only of the “Godzilla dies” type movies that doesn’t view Godzilla as a thing that just needs to be destroyed and nothing else, which is nice.

    2.       Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster – One of the more strange and experimental entries in the franchise. This Dada inspired flick features Godzilla against a personification of industrial pollution in a battle for the future of the planet. Despite still being part of the “kiddy” phase of Godzilla, this movie is actually pretty dark and ghastly when you come right down to it. Hedorah actively murders people, people die in gruesome ways, and Godzilla suffers horribly to try to stop him. I’m sure to watch it every Earth Day, it’s a true classic to me.

    1.       Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla – This movie is so wonderful I can barely describe it without just being a total dork about it. Great soundtrack, terrific production value, amazing monster action, and while it can be a bit camp, it never detracts from the joy I have watching this movie. The only possible thing I could say against it is the King Caesar song is a bit long, but it’s an easy 3 minute skip. Overall I’d have to say this might be the peak of Showa era, and I’d be hard pressed to think of a movie I’ve seen as many times and so consistently enjoyed.

Honorable Mentions:

Shin Godzilla – While I feel this is a grand political satire movie, I can’t for the life of me really call it a Godzilla movie. Sure, the monster looks like Godzilla, but it’s written so much more like Hedorah that it boggles my mind as to why they didn’t just make him Hedorah. Once you get passed that, the core joke of this movie is very simple: The audience knows what it takes to deal with Godzilla, but the characters in the movie do not. Watching the Japanese bureaucracy constantly act a step behind the treat makes for great dark comedy.

Destroy All Monsters - Had it not been for the fact that a lot of the monster action comes through monitors that the protags are watching, I'd place this on the list itself. But sadly, a lot of the movie is spent with our human cast, and while there are fun elements of alien invasion, spy stuff, space action, it never quite goes over the top enough to become really really fun. Granted, the final kaiju fight between King Ghidorah and -all- of Earth's monsters is fun to watch and has lots of neat stuff. While a classic, I still can't give it as high praise as I have other movies in the series.

Godzilla (2014) – This is a damn solid entry in the series overall, and a good start for a new universe. It’s got some fun backstory, the monsters feel fantastic, and they really capture a true sense of scale with Godzilla and the MUTOs. But jeeze, Kickass is so lack luster for me. I feel you really could do more with his character but he’s so goddamn blank, and it doesn’t help that Brian Cranston is so much better as a leading man and he just dies half way through. This would be way higher up there if we didn’t have to deal with Kickass.

Godzilla: Final Wars – An utterly bonkers movie. Like someone took Godzilla and the Matrix and SLAMMED them together at mach2! Godzilla is less of a monster and more of a kaiju-sized slasher in this movie, effortlessly murdering other monsters as he chases our protags. Any flaws this movie has are compensated by the fast pacing and high energy of the plot and characters, and when it’s not quick it’s just wacko.

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack -Another of those dark, edge-lord style Godzillas, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I love the overall monster aesthetic of this movie. Mothra is the only one who I feel is off, but everyone else is great. Lots of different types of monster fights in this, even though it doesn't bring too much new to the table overall. This is also one of the first Godzilla movies I was really hyped for, I had an issue of Fangoria with an article about this one, and I was so excited for it! Still have that issue to this day.

UPDATE: Now it turns out that my mom made a big mistake when it comes to the date that the lease ends and my EXTREMELY unhelpful asshole of a stepdad decided to not tell us about this mistake until WELL AFTER the fact AND he's telling us that we have a chance to be arrested for trying to do an unlawful eviction.

UPDATE: So now she wanted to stay another 2 weeks, with no intent of paying the rent for the month. My mom, naturally, isn't handling this whole thing well and told her to be out by this week at the latest and to just get her stuff and go. She responded that she'll report us to the police and to the IRS for renting and unlivable apartment. She'll also be suing us if we try to get the locks changed.
This is my reality now I guess. . .

So for the past year my family has been renting a small apartment to a young woman, and by extension her boyfriend/fiance. During that year, we've had numerous complains from neighbors, several arguments and fights, garbage thrown into our yard, late rent, and having our own run-ins with her abusive boyfriend/fiance.

Well, a month before the lease contract ends, she's practically abandoned that apartment. She knocked on our door over the weekend and just said, "Yeah, I'm gonna live with my mother in Juarez, bye." and we haven't heard from her since. Her boyfriend/fiance came by two days ago to get drunk with some of his buddies and trash the lawn again, but we haven't seen him since.

Earlier today we checked out the apartment to find they literally just decided to not come back. All their furniture is there, old clothes, unfinished beers, garbage, and even old food was thrown all over the place. There was also dog food all over the place, including about 2lbs of it in the kitchen sink. But if that wasn't enough there's also two different holes punched into two different walls, because why not have some property damage too?

After we repair and clean up the apartment, would anyone be interested in a 500sqft single occupant apartment in farthest west Texas?

So I was feeling better for a while, was even able to function like a goddamn human being. I had tried to distance myself from my biological father, one of many sources of dread and anxiety in my life, but NOPE! My mom isn't having that and now I'm being guilt tripped back into regular contact with him. Ever since this started happening a few weeks ago, I've been a mess again. Distant, hard to focus, anxious, panicked. . .

This page is probably gonna be dead again for a long while again, but that's the norm now isn't it?

so while my life goes through this spiral into god-knows where, commissions are on hold. I still have the notes some of you sent me and they're still on the list, I just can't work on anything for the foreseeable future and beyond depending on if my family gets what they want from me.

The worst part about long holiday weekends is having to be around my family more. Sorry to commissioners for the lack of updates and whatnot, I should be able to resume work come tomorrow.

Unrelated, but I'm half tempted to write up an anthology of my nightmares as they've been haunting me again lately. . .

For those of you who are worried, no, this won't mean I won't stop posting art here, nor will there be pay walls in front of most of my work. I will simply be posting work onto patreon before I post it here, but I will still post here.

This tag thingy is about your own art, which drawing you like the most, which you like the least and what are your most popular drawings!
Answer the sections with posting your artwork!
And tag 1-3 people~
Have fun! Maybe some people learned something about their favorite artist!

What are your favorite 3 drawings you created? (in order if possible)

Hohlen Sieg by BlakerOats My first attempt at doing a creating a dated looking piece, and I'm happy to say I really enjoy how it came out. The story that goes along with it I'm also very fond of. ^^

Road Game by BlakerOats I like the look of synthwave a lot, so even if there are some things I feel could be better about this, I'm happy enough with it that I'd include it in a portfolio if I ever made one. xD

Demonic Healer by BlakerOats This was the first time I experimented with the "extreme contrast" I would start doing more of later. Perfect? Nah, but I like how a lot of these effects came out, especially considering I had no clue what I was doing.

What are your 3 least favorite drawings you created?
(I should stress that I tend to be mostly lukewarm to my own work)

Fury Road by BlakerOats
An attempt to recreate a scene from Fury Road. I tried to do it more painterly than I usually make drawings, and the fact I'm terrible at doing things painterly really comes through.

Powered by Children and Fairies by BlakerOats
A cute idea for the "combine two kaiju" meme that was going around, but Mothera and Gamera just -do-not- mix well.

Funny Zoidberg Title Here by BlakerOats
This is just boring. No wonder I forgot to post it.

What are your 3 most popular drawings in your gallery? (from the time writing this)

Megas XLR vs. Godzilla by BlakerOats

Post Pacific Rim Doodles by BlakerOats

More Gypsy Fun by BlakerOats
(was honestly not expecting these to be my 3 most popular)

I don't tag folks, but if you wanna do it feel free. ^^

So i had some grand plans lined up for last week: regular streaming, more drawing, even a couple of comics and sequences. BUT THEN on Monday morning when I had to manually open my garage door, it jammed as I tried to lift it up. Things seemed okay for a couple hours after and then the lower back pain hit, and i've been in pain since. I'm finally feeling a little better today, cramp in my right leg aside. . . and this incoming cold aside too . . . it at least doesn't hurt as much to have a lower back.

On an unrelated note, I managed to catch Silence, Martin Scorsese's latest film. It's a well done film, and it's neat to see Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver in a non-spiderman and non-starwars movie, respectively. Effective use of silence, and it takes place in an interesting time and setting, 1600s Japan and how they reacted to the spread of Christianity. It's definitely not for everyone, as it is very dark and deals a lot with questions about faith. Still, I imagine people who are into Japanese history/culture or are history buffs in general might get a kick out of it.

Hopefully next week I'll be able to go see Monster Trucks like I wanted to >.>
